Background Information on BIAC
The Botswana Institute of Administration and Commerce (BIAC) is the oldest training organ founded in 1964 as a result of the merger between the Trade School and the Public Works Department Training Organisation.

The Botswana Training Centre (BTC), as it was popularly known since 1964 - shared similar historical past as experienced by other institutions of public administration or management development in Africa. Through recommendations of various Presidential Commissions, the Institute became a national college of commerce and administration to train personnel for the private, parastatal and public sectors.
The name of the Institute was ultimately changed to Botswana Institute of Administration and Commerce in 1980. Since this time the Institute operated under the aegis of the Office of the President reporting first to the Administration Secretary, now to the Director of Public Service Management.

The Institute strives to maintain high standard in training programmes through effective selection procedures for admission to programmes. The academic staff members are recruited on the basic of the required experience, qualification and ability to reach the technical areas and to offer support services.

The overall aim of the Institute is to fully prepare course participants at all levels and in all sectors of the economy of Botswana for jobs in the respective disciplines, through programmes structure in view of the present day end-users needs.

Various courses are offered in Accountancy, secretarial, Public Administration, Computing and Language and Communication Skills.
FACILITIES. The Institute has provision for learning and recreational activities. The Institute has a special library with books covering a wide range of topics covered in the syllabi of all the training departments. The use of the library is open to all students and staff members of the Institute.
