Ms. A.V. Mokobi - Principal

Background

The Botswana Institution of Administration and Commerce (BIAC) is a government training Institute under the policy guidance of the Directorate of Public Service Management.  The Institute is headed by the Principal assisted by the Deputy Principal, five Heads of Department, and the Registrar.  BIAC's mandate of training for the Public Service has evolved over the years from providing training in technical and commercial trades to training in management development skills.

Although the mandate is quite clear, because of limited training facilities within the country, BIAC soon found itself extending its services and thereby going beyond its mandate by training secondary school leavers, and officers from the private and the parastatal sectors of the economy.  However, the Institute has maintained its focus of training serving public officers and also school leavers most of whom join the public service on successful completion of their studies.

The Institute offers long and short term training programmes for both the private and the public sectors in the fields of:

  1.         Accountancy and Business Studies
  2.         Computer Studies
  3.         Public Administration and Management Studies
  4.         Secretarial Studies

All these programmes have a component of Communication Skills and Public Relations. The programmes range from the basic level to higher national diploma.   The rationale for running these courses is to meet the increasing demand for trained personnel in these areas.
